On the other hand, the Tricity Metro system has a total of 35 km of the network, which is in ChandIGARH, 11 km of the network in panchkula, 31 km in mohali/new chandigarh.
The Chandigarh-Punjab-Haryana Metro network is set to transform the Tricity with the implementation of a 2-coach metro network under the proposed MRTS project. Recently, RITES announced the revised alignments for the project, which has been cleared by all stakeholders.
The soon-to-be-launched metro rail service is expected to improve connectivity and reduce the increasing road traffic in the Tricity, which includes Chandigarh and Mohali, as well as Panchkula, by providing efficient transportation to residents and commuters.
The metro corridor will primarily operate overground.
The first phase of Tricity Metro has been extended from 66 km to 77 km. According to the reports, the revised plan for Tricity Metro Phase 1 includes a total of 35 km of the network in Chandiggarh.
The plan also includes 11 km for Chandiggarh and 11 km for Panchkura. The plan further includes 31 km of the network for Mohali /New Chandiggarh, an 11 km extension in Mohali, a 6 km extension in Paroul, a 6 km link between Sarangpur and Sarangpur and about 5 km link between Panchkul Ispat-Shekhar Nagar (ISBT) and Panchkul Extension, Sector 20.
These extensions were part of Phase 2 and are now part of the on-going metro project.
Chandigarh Tricity Metro: Information about the route.
The proposed metro corridor will be around 39 km in length and will not include heritage sectors from sector 1 to sector 30. The completion of the final metro network is being planned in two phases.
The metro network will cover the areas of Chandigarhad, Mohali,Panchkula,Zirakpur,New Chandigarhad, Pinjore and will have around 30 stations.
Phase 1
The first phase of the corridor, which is planned to be built over the period of 2027 to 2037, will run along the following key routes:
Parol SARangpur-Panchkula Inter-State Border Line (ISBT)
Rock Garden-Zirakpur Inter-state Line (IIBL)
Mohali Industrial Area-Chandigarh Airport 35 km
Grain Market Chowk-Sector 39-Transport Nagar (Sector 26-Sector 39) 13 km
Part of the third corridor between sectors 26 and 39 will be fully elevated.
Most of the lines and stations in first two corridors (tracks and stations) will be elevated while others will be underground.
Phase 2
airport chowk to manakpur kallar (5 km) and zirakpur isalat to pinjore isalat (20 km). The corridors will be mostly elevated in the next phase to be developed after 2037.
Chandigarh Tricity Metro Project Cost
According to the latest updated information, the total estimated cost of CM Metro project is around Rs 11,000 Crore. The total cost of CM Metro will be 20% from Haryana, 20% from Punjab, and 20% from the Centre.
The remaining 60% will be funded by the lending agency. In July 2023 CM government decided to include all the interested parties in preparation of AAR, CFE, and DPR for CM Metro project according to central government guidelines.
